
We found this chart interesting ahead of Amazon’s earnings — box shipments from one of America’s largest manufacturers of boxes, the aptly named Packaging Corp. We’re thinking: what’s the read-through for Amazon, Shopify, and other “big retail” — we imagine it suggests lower sales across the board. Is this a sign of the consumer starting to lose momentum? Remaining bullish re: AMZN — we think AWS will pad out any consumer weakness — but we think “big retail” will start to show some weakness. Note the correlation to ’08 – certainly a pattern…
