New Zealand Market Movers
The New Zealand market (NZX 50 Index, -0.8%) declined on Monday.
Move Logistics (2.0%) rose after announcing the appointment of Craig Evans as its new CEO. Evans previously spent six years as Mainfreight’s (-0.6%) New Zealand company manager.
Oceania Healthcare (-1.3%) fell after announcing Frances Hughes, its general manager of clinical and care services would leave the company in March 2023.
Australia Market Movers
The Australian market (ASX 200 Index, -0.5%) was dragged lower by Utilities (-4.3%) on Monday, including Origin Energy (-7.8%) whose takeover from North American bidders is looking shaky. Sector compatriots also affected negatively included AGL Energy (-2.6%).
Westpac was down marginally (0.0%) after announcing that its “preliminary discussions” with ASX listed Tyro Payments (-19.5%) to acquire 100% of the company’s issued share capital has ended and no new bids will be offered.
Europe Market Movers
European markets (Stoxx 600 Index, -0.4%) closed lower on Monday, led lower by mining stocks (-1.6%). Only Oil and Gas (+0.3%) ended the day in positive territory as Crude Oil (+3.0%) ticked up from its multi-month low overnight.
Shares in the London Stock Exchange Group (+2.8%) surged after it announced a 10-year data-infrastructure partnership with Microsoft (0.0%) which included the US-listed company acquiring a 4% stake in the stock exchange.
US Market Movers
US markets (S&P 500 Index +1.2%) advanced on Monday, as it recovers from one of its worst weeks since September.
Boeing (+2.9%) lifted the markets higher on reports that Air India is close to placing orders for more than 500 jetliners across several suppliers (including main rival, the European listed Airbus (+0.4%)).
The NY Federal Reserve released a survey Monday which showed consumers are growing more optimistic about inflation. Consumers see one-year inflation at 5.2%, down 0.7 percentage points from the October reading. On Tuesday, the Federal Reserve begins its 2-day meeting before announcing its latest interest rate decision on Thursday.
